The ironically named Joshua Tree Surf Club was an arts collective active during the early 1970s, founded at CalArts, they were most notable for their anarchic happenings and performance art. The growing politicization of the college alongside their naked performances and swimming-pool parties around campus were famously unappreciated by visiting trustees.
